September 3rd:
Gareth Lockrane (flute), Colin Oxley (guitar), Luke Steele (bass).
Young English hard-bop flautist Gareth Lockrane, who was voted into the 2008 'Rising Star' category in the US Downbeat Critics Poll and who plays an instrument seen very rarely in jazz, leads this trio
featuring ex-Stacey Kent guitarist Colin Oxley and regular bass man Luke Steele.
September 10th
Mike Gorman (piano), Nat Steele (drums), Luke Steele (bass).
The ebullient Bud Powell-inspired pianist Mike Gorman, one of the leading lights on his instrument in the UK, has played with almost every living jazz great, his startling technical ability shining through
on ballads and up-tempo numbers. He's accompanied here by rhythm section brothers Luke and Nat Steele.
September 17th
Jim Mullen (guitar), Matt Home (drums) and Luke Steele (bass).
Scottish guitarist Jim Mullen, ex-Average White Band member and multiple winner of the guitar category in the British Jazz Awards, takes his cue from Wes Montgomery, plucking the strings with his thumb
instead of a pick and getting a very sweet but authoritative tone from the instrument. Tonight he'll play a mix of jazz standards accompanied by hard-swinging drummer Matt Home and bassist Luke Steele.
September 24
Atila (vocal), Tim Lapthorn (piano), Luke Steele (bass).
Young ex-NYJO singer Atila, just back from a tour with Rat Packer Buddy Greco, sings standards from the Frank Sinatra repertoire with a winsome finesse that belies his age. Accompaniment is in safe hands with
pianist Tim Lapthorn and regular bassist Luke Steele.
